What do you love most about your job?
What I love most is that I have freedom in what I create, what my workflow is, what I need to do that day. I’m responsible for my own projects and deadlines. We have a very relaxed environment to work in.
What the biggest challenge in your job?
To constantly renew my style. I keep up to date on all the trends – I follow so many Pinterest boards – but it’s a challenge to adopt a new style each time.
What have you learned working at Social Blue?
My Photoshop skills have expanded with leaps and bounds. I have more experience with offline design and work a lot in Illustrator and InDesign. I knew Photoshop, but using it for most of the day creating designs for online helped me improve quickly.
What inspires you?
Travel. Going different places inspires me. When you travel, you meet different people from all over the world with their own story and their own view on life. And you see design everywhere. When I go outside, I see architecture, I see logos. When I go into a restaurant, I look at the menu design. I see everything critically, but there is beautiful design everywhere if you look. Most people pass it by without really looking.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I’ve traveled quite a bit already, but at the top of my list now are New Zealand, Fiji – the Pacific islands. And I want to see more of South America.
What’s the best day in your life?
The best day of my life was in Tortuguero in Costa Rica. There are no roads there, no cars, no streets. The beach is on one side, the river on the other. I was there with a friend. We watched the sunrise at 5AM, went canoeing along the river and saw so many wild animals. We came back to the beach in the afternoon and met another group of people traveling there and had some great food together. Breathtaking.
If you could witness any event, past, present and future, where would you go?
A concert of Ella Fitzgerald. Or Woodstock.
What does success mean to you?
Happiness in what you do. As long as what you do makes you happy, that’s success.
